Lessons in measuring one’s life through the
Royal Enfield Association of the Philippines
Words by Karlo De Guzman

“The law of harvest is to reap more than you’ve sown. Sow an act, and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.” -James Allen (1864- 1912, British Philosophical writer)
Theirs is a character that has been essentially the same on the road for decades; built simple and solid, they are difficult to break, and yet, they are easy to repair. While these virtues describe the Royal Enfield motorcycle, it can say the same for the members of the Royal Enfield Association of the Philippines, with its members called “Reapers”; theirs is the newest motorcycle club in our community.
Having a Royal Enfield in their possession is a great reward, but it is not their only sense of accomplishment. They’ve earned these lovely bikes through their share of hardships and trials, and we are auspicious enough to know some of them. Exclusive in its membership for Royal Enfield owners, it can truly say, “Like the bike, as to its owner.”
A simplified measure of Success
Life’s gauges have been narrowed down to the essentials, with only the simplest measurement to determine happiness; a Reaper’s life motivator isn’t just money. When more and more of us just work thinking that a career means earning, saving, and then buying, these alone doesn’t yield the deep rewards that come from building up people. In any profession or occupation, practice it well by offering ways to help others learn and grow, take responsibility, and be recognized for achievement.
See what’s important
Their bikes have high and wide handlebars so that a Reaper could sit up and take notice. And with good ground clearance to take them over rough goings, a Reaper doesn’t just keep their purpose at the front and center of their lives as they decided how to spend their time, talents, and energy. A Reaper knows to over-invest in their families. Their intimate and loving relationship is the most powerful and enduring source of happiness.
Value Humility
The Royal Enfield may be rugged in its demeanor as it takes an undivided concentration and brute determination to master, yet it remains civilized without losing its unique unrefined charisma by smartly concealing a modern Electronic Fuel Injection System. It’s an example of humility. Generally, the one characteristic of humble people that stands out is their high level of self-esteem. Knowing who they are, and feeling good about it, theirs is a good behavior that flows naturally, and it solicits a blind reassurance that they’ve a character that would never steal from someone because they respect that person too much, or that they’d never lie to someone either.
With these philosophies, by name and by example, they are reapers, and from just these few words that the club shared, it shouts how true the saying goes.
As you’ve sown, so shall you reap.
